J��� 2, 2010 exchange student! Host a foreign The Scholars’ Academy and the Pacific Intercultur- al Exchange are looking for families to host foreign exchange students for the 2010-2011 school year. Experience cultures from all over the world like China, Brazil, Australia and Russia. Students are 15- 18 years old, have their own insurance and spend- ing money. Families will just need to provide a safe environment, room and board, meals and loving support. Single parents, empty nesters, families with small children and families of teens can all en- joy hosting a student. If you are interested in hosting a foreign exchange student, please call the school office at 928-927- 9420 for more information. AWC Fire Academy accepting applications AWC Fire Academy in Parker, AZ begins in August YUMA, ARIZ. — Arizona Western College (AWC) Public Safety Institute will have a Fire Academy in Parker, AZ for Fall of 2010. Applications are now available at the AWC Parker site. The applications are due by July 1, 2010. Physical Agility and Oral Boards will be at Quartz- site Fire station on July 18th at 07:00 am at 70 W. Tyson Street. The Fire Academy will begin August 17th at 6:00 pm in the AWC building on 11th Street in Parker, AZ. Geronimo in Parker or call Margaret, Kathy or Teresa at 928-669-2214. D����� M�������� In Memorium ~ Georgia H. Qualls Georgia H. Qualls Known to friends & family as “Georgie” passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 20 2010, after suffering a massive stroke May 4, 2010. Georgia and husband Jim resided in Midvale ID from the time of their marriage in 1947 until 1981. Georgia and Jim first came to Quartzsite in the fall of 1981. The couple was proud to be snowbirds until Jim passed in the spring of 1989. Georgia became a year round resident in 1991. Throughout the years, Georgia worked in numerous capacities in ID. She proudly helped open Ted’s Bullpen Restaurant, worked for Desert Gardens in several capacities, worked for Stagecoach Restaurant and at the age of 71 was named employee of the year at McDonald’s- Quartzsite. Georgia completely retired in 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, three brothers, one sister, three grandsons and various family members. Georgia is survived by son Dan of Wyoming/Quartzsite, son Lyle and wife Joanie of Quartzsite, daughter, Daisy and husband Jerry of Ontario Oregon, daughter Eva and husband Bubba of Quartzsite, brother Virgil of Mesa, Ariz., sisters Dora and Ora of Portland, Oregon, brother Bob and wife Betty of Vancouver, Wash., sister Irene and husband Bill of Tacoma, Wash., 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews family and friends.
