14 " Donors don't give to institutions. They invest in ideas and people in whom they believe" – G. T. Smith, education fund- raiser. I believe that is the perspective of those who support our Securing the Future of Mu Chapter Capital Campaign. Mu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi represents the ideas of creating Better Men and a Better World. The young men that become members of Mu Chapter develop the skills to become more valuable members of society. The brotherhood and values of Alpha Sigma Phi provide a solid foundation for them to realize high academic achievement and to pursue their life goals. When you invest in the campaign, you invest in the continuation of the strong legacy of our Chapter by helping to preserve our home: the Old Gal. I'm proud to report that the current state of the undergraduate Chapter is strong. This is reflected on a national level as well as with membership numbers and grades. • Mu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi won the Grand Senior President Cup for large system chapters at the 55th Grand Chapter in Indianapolis last summer. This is the highest honor a chapter can receive within Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. The award represents nine consecutive years of chapter operations awards—two Gold Cups, two Silver Cups, and four Bronze Cups. An impressive record of consistent excellence. • Since the beginning of last summer, the Chapter has initiated 40 new members. The total active membership at the start of spring quarter was 113, with 61 live-ins and 52 live-outs, including 27 living in the Jackson House leased across the street. • Last fall, the Chapter achieved a 3.4 GPA and an impressive 32 brothers made the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Now an update on the renovation project. The first phase of the renovation was planned for last summer. Unfortunately, two factors caused delays: the red-hot Seattle building market tying up contractors' availability and the slow pace of the City of Seattle permitting process. Building committee chair Torjan Rohhovde '75 is working to complete the permitting process and has selected a contractor. We expect to begin working on the kitchen and the main floor by June. The renovation of the upper floors and the electrical/mechanical are planned for the summers of 2020 and 2021. As I've mentioned before, the total scope of the renovation work will depend on your support and whether we attain our goal of $2 million. Undergraduates Donating $50,000 Our undergraduate brothers are committed to the growth and future of Mu Chapter. They have committed $50,000 to the campaign. They are working closely with the Corporate Board to provide input on the plans and to coordinate recruitment this summer during the renovation work. Even though this will present challenges, our undergraduate brothers are excited for the work to begin. Donate Today We have raised almost $1 million through the generous gifts and pledges of 115 donors. If you haven't joined the campaign yet, please don't wait any longer. Please mail the enclosed pledge card today or visit alphasigmaphi.com/capital-campaign and click on Donate. Help up renovate the Old Gal and secure the future or our brotherhood and values. It is an investment you can believe in.
