TEXAS ALPHAN TRENT
PATTERSON '08 LIVES TRUE
TO PHI PSI VALUES
As a lifetime Longhorns fan, whose first game was the
1997 UCLA "Rout 66" loss ("Even after a horrible start,
I was still hooked"), Trent Patterson '08 says deciding to
attend the University of Texas was not difficult. "I pursued
a degree in electrical engineering, and Texas being a top
10 program in the country made it an easy choice."
The lessons he learned as a Texas Alphan benefitted
him as an undergraduate and long after graduation. Phi
Psi guided Trent in becoming a leader and understanding
the dynamics of a team. "It taught me to have strength
through challenges and to always do the right thing, even
when it seems wrong or isn't the easiest path." He also
credits the fraternity experience for showing him that
"the best things in life are achieved together. Working as
a team and putting the group in front of your personal
needs is the only way to achieve lasting success."
Trent has certainly put all this in practice as director of
operations for Dish Society, a farm-to-table diner with
five locations in Houston that he started with Aaron
Lyons '03 in 2013. After working for Chick-fil-A for several years, opening nearly
50 restaurants around the country and still not getting his own franchise, he
was ready to explore a new path. He admits this is an interesting use of his
engineering degree, but "I think it helps me take a different approach to many
of the problems commonly faced in the restaurant industry."
A proud Texas Alpha alumnus, Trent shares his talents and resources with
collegians and graduates alike by hosting rush events and alumni happy hours
at several of his restaurants. He is impressed with the chapter members and
believes there "really seems to be a concerted effort to get to new heights by
doing things the right way." Trent is passionate about maintaining connections
with Texas Alpha and offering job opportunities to younger brothers. "Building
the next generation of leaders is a top priority."
Trent lives in Katy, Texas, with his wife, Caress, and their dog, Max. He can be
