What advice do you have for fellow
educators in the career college sector of
higher education?
Know that every student has a story. ey come to us from all
walks of life with all sorts of challenges. Remember that you
cannot correct if you do not connect. See each individual and
get to know what makes them tick. Learn who they are and
how they process information and you will succeed at reaching
your students.
Why are professional development and
continuing education important to you?
Professional development and continuing education keep me
fresh. I enjoy learning from others and it fuels my success in
the classroom. I hope to continue developing and sharpening
my tools so that I can sharpen those who take my class. "As
iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." is
quote embodies professional development to me.
What's one thing you think career
education leaders can do to improve
institutional performance?
Connecting with each student is key to institutional success.
Start with one. Having a positive impact on the individual
will become exponentially rewarding for the student, the
instructor, the classroom, and the institution. And last, but
certainly not least, have your instructors experience the impact
of professional development so that it will lead to a ripple of
successes.
