Even though these people are displaced, they have to learn how to treat them with respect and dignity." While learning how to network both with the people who come to eat at Operation Inasmuch and the staff and volunteers who are there to help out, Miller said the students pick up things about working in the kitchen that are difficult to replicate in a classroom setting. Guests may have specific requests, like special orders on how to prepare a food item. "ey are going to have to think on their feet," Miller said. "ey are going to have to move quickly and effectively. ey are going to have to communicate with their other co-workers as well." ere's another aspect to working at Operation Inasmuch that Miller said makes it special for his students. "I want somebody who is a little more mature to go out there and be part of it," he said. "You have to have a certain individual that has a certain character that can function out there. ey want to give back and they do it from the heart." Miller said it's important they appreciate the atmosphere at Operation Inasmuch. "ere's a very caring environment,'' he said. "ey want to give back. ey want to take care of people. It's not about themselves. It's about the people they are trying to take care of. It takes a special person." Currently, only one student works at a time in the Operation Inasmuch kitchen, but Miller said that's by design. "I don't want them to lean on each other," Miller said of the students.
