Riddle Stadium for a combined 14 seasons. e Crocs replaced the Generals aer the 1996 season but played only through 2000 before decamping for New Jersey. Poor attendance was blamed along with a need for better playing quarters. Around 2014, city officials started discussing ways to bring Minor League Baseball back to Fayetteville, including building a new stadium in a better location. By the spring of 2016, they were ready to talk to the Houston Astros, who were looking for a location for a new Class A-Advanced team that the Astros organization would own and operate. at December, the two sides struck an agreement – Fayetteville would build a brand-new baseball stadium for the team and have it open for the 2019 season and the Astros would agree to lease the property for 30 years. In the interim, the team played two seasons at Jim Perry Stadium at Campbell University and was temporarily dubbed the Buies Creek Astros. Jim Perry Stadium seats 630 people and the team averaged just over 350 tickets sales per game. Naturally, ticket sales are much higher in Fayetteville, with the games aer the opening night each averaging more than 3,500 in sales. at matches up with projections by Astros officials that the team would bring 250,000 people or more downtown each year. Game nights are about more than just baseball.
