Bishop Seabury Academy

J ake Esau's pride of being a "Seabury Kid" during the early days of Bishop Seabury is a big factor in his support of the Building on Our Mission campaign. Grateful for the community that allowed him to help start new traditions and have a hand in creating its spirit, he says, "I feel an obligation to support the school now that I am able." Class size (15-20 per room) and the small- school atmosphere were aspects that Jake's parents found more suitable than the traditional public school setting. This environment allowed the teachers and students more freedom in learning. "The teachers were not afraid to challenge us and force us to think critically," Jake says. Able to push the boundaries and free from more rigid learning experiences, the students were "better prepared when we were challenged in the future." Jake is grateful for the lasting impact of his instructors. He says Dr. Don Schawang is more than head of school and "has always been a friend to the students." He also gives high praise to Mr. Knudson: "the best math teacher I ever had, including during college." Jake believes the Seabury school environment was beneficial to his career now, working for a small enterprise software company. As a senior technical consultant, Jake installs, configures, and supports the software with their enterprise customers. He enjoys tinkering with computers outside of work, as well as skiing, hiking, biking, and refereeing soccer. The benefits and memories of Jake's Seabury days have led him to contribute each year to the annual fund and visit when his schedule allows. "I have watched as Seabury's facilities have evolved from a former elementary school with portable classrooms to the campus it is today. I am encouraged to see the continued growth of the school."
