Ball State University Epsilon Mu Chapter Spring 2019 THE IRIS Chapter Hosts Northern Division Conference • 2 Campaign 50 Donors • 3 Q&A with Matthew Nardini '17 • 4 House Corporation Works on Improvements to The Shelter Alumni Continue to Support Epsilon Mu T he house corporation has been making cosmetic improvements to the Shelter, including repairs to the Shelter's original grand staircase. Undergraduates have enjoyed the improvements to the property, including the updated restroom and showers, new kitchen amenities, updated weight and brotherhood rooms, and the new basketball surface. We are also trying to restore some elegance to the 1860 structure. We look forward to making additional improvements to the existing structures, both inside and out, so that we can remain competitive with campus housing. ENHANCEMENTS TO SECURITY Security is important to impede vandalism to the Shelter and better protect our membership and their possessions. We have installed video cameras surveilling the exterior of the building and the major points of entry. Vandalism to the exterior of the building has been greatly reduced. Additional cameras are being considered to provide additional coverage. Our key card system for our exterior doors has been implemented and all residential rooms are secured with a coded locking mechanisms. We've also replaced and enclosed the fencing around the eastern, less visible portion of the property. EPSILON MU WELCOMES NORTHERN DIVISION DELTS This spring, the Northern Division Conference was held in Muncie, Ind., osted by Epsilon Mu. Many visitors commented on the excellent condition of our nearly 160-year-old structure and how the 1991 addition integrated into the older structure. Brother Wade Baertschi '11 has taken ownership of the Klinge Lounge (Library to the younger folks) and has adorned it with past composites and memorabilia, all of which were a big hit to our Northern Division visitors and our current undergraduate membership. Brother Dan Peters '79 stopped in this spring (first time in 30-plus years) with his son and shared a few stories with some of the undergraduates. We encourage all alumni passing through the neighborhood to stop in, reflect upon the Shelter, and share a little time with the undergraduate membership. We would greatly appreciate you visiting the Shelter and sharing your memories of Epsilon Mu. Fraternally, John Knox '78 House Corporation jrknox@bsu.edu
