Places to visit Vina Abbey of New Clairvaux
The Abbey of New Clairvaux has long been a place of worship, hard work and inspiration. The 585 acres is near the town of Vina.
The property is cared for by roughly 25 monks who work the land with a few additional employees. The monks meet seven times a day for
worship, beginning at 3:30 a.m. and finishing at 8 p.m.
The Chapter House at the abbey is part of a 12th century monastery in Oliva Spain. It was brought to San

The Cistercian monks began growing wine grapes in 2002 and make St. James Syrah and Zinfandel. The
vineyard has a long wine- making history,
dating back to 1846
when Peter Lassen planted
grapes and 1885 when Leland
Stanford built the world's largest winery. The first batch of
Chapter House
Francisco by William Randolph Hearst and is now reassembled piece by piece at the Vina site.

Grapes that thrive in hot climates are used. Bottles of the wines are
available at the
monastery and sell for up to $20. Atasting room is open from
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
