After graduating from the University of Montana, Doug served in the Army and as an illustrator before returning to his alma mater for his master's. After moving to Eugene, Ore., for three years after graduation, Wayne went south to Reno, Nev., to work at the city's NBC affiliate TV station as a newscaster and sportscaster. Wayne was a big sports fan, especially when it came to University of Montana and University of Nevada-Reno athletics. Martin "Marty" Mikelsons '64 entered Chapter Eternal on January 18, 2019. During Mar- ty's childhood, he fled Latvia for the United States with his mother, grandmother, and sisters. The Mikelsons eventually settled in Great Falls, Mont. While working at the bank, Marty attended the University of Washington Pacific Coast Banking School, wrote a thesis, and earned his master's degree. Can't Get Enough Beta Beat? Follow Us Online for More Updates! Marty Mikelsons Zeal award In memory of Martin "Marty" Mikelsons '64, Montana Beta will offer a new $1,000 annual scholarship, thanks to the urging of John Olson '62 who made the initial contribution. The Mar- ty Mikelsons Zeal Award winner will be chosen by a committee of undergraduates and alumni advisors. The selected brother will be one who best displays the attributes of a True Gentlemen including loyalty, enthusiasm, hard work, and dedication to the chapter. We currently have enough funds for the next three years. We are still accepting donations and hope to fund the scholarship for many more years. See page 2 for details on how to make a gift and to see who has contributed.
