We come down here winters, and then scuttle back north for six months. The year-round locals (bless their hardy souls) probably think we come to use their sunshine, good weather and fun events. Well, we do! What do we give back? We have an opportunity to give back and pay it for- ward. The students we are helping have already demonstrated leader- ship and maturity well beyond their age. Could you have afforded a college education maybe costing thousands of dollars? Many of our local residents and business have really stepped up to the plate. Let's be realistic, some (many?) of these kids would get further education and come back to Quartzsite. Hooray for them! They would improve Quartzsite for all of us, Snowbirds and locals. Think about it: EMT's, Ambulance attendants, nurses, teachers, business man- agers, cooks, welders, machinists etc. These kids provide the services you and I need and make Quartzsite safer and better. There's an active Scholarship Committee dedicated to helping local kids. This includes the Roadrunners Gem and Mineral Club and the Quartzsite Improvement Association (QIA). Both organizations match funds up to $3,000. This year was a record year for scholarship funds: $10,000. WOW, that's where we thank you ALL who have helped and contributed to the various scholarship projects to raise this money. We look forward to the next season -this fall- and new events and ideas to raise more money for our future leaders, and to help further their col- lege education, and again we say, THANK YOU.
