Discove r Cit yV iewN C.co m's fre s h up d ate d loo k ! | 11 about the message I wanted to share, I kept coming back to the message of empowering women who face the type of daily assaults that led to the #MeToo movement, whose presence in hallowed halls is a force to be reckoned with because of the record number of women just elected to Congress, who struggle to make ends meet because of unfair practices that deny women equal pay for equal work, who no longer question their beauty because they have curvy hips and big lips, who are fighting oppressive and arcane tropes that keep girls from getting an education … For the woman reading this who worries about whether she is a good mother, who strives to achieve the elusive work/life balance, who wants to start that business or go back to school or leave an abusive relationship or start a new one aer being hurt in the past, know that God is within you so you will not fail. Call upon the strength of the women who came before you as well as the support of the women who stand beside you and remember that it is written in His Word that you will not fail. Play the song of Psalm 46:5 every time fear, self-doubt and naysayers try to defeat you and try to make you give up on your dreams. Be resilient and courageous knowing that "though the earth should change and though the mountains be shaken into the midst of the seas, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble ... God is within her, she will not fail." Dr. Kimberly Hardy is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University. Her research focuses on the intersection of social work and faith with a particular emphasis on African-Americans and the institution of the Black Church in both a historical and contemporary context.
