Looking forward to seeing our Friends! Not a licensed contractor The Arizona Historical Society and Friends of the Quartzsite Museum were fortunate to have received a grant from the Arizona Humanities to fund our series of 5 speakers this year. All were very successful and we had to move the meeting venue to accommodate more people! Our last speaker, Win Holden, former publisher of the Arizona Highways Maga- zine was a great hit, not just covering the evolution of the magazine but providing us with a bit of humor along the way. An added bonus was a free back issue of Arizona Highways for everyone. We hope to have a similar series next year and Arizona Humanities has a group of excellent speakers to draw from. We already hope to repeat the Orphan Train pre- sentation it was so popular! We invite the public to make suggestions on topics on historical subjects that might be of interest. Please call or come by the Museum if you have an idea! On February 20 we led a fi eld trip to "The Gold Eye Mine" south of Dome Rock. The owner was gracious in providing us with a tour. We expect to have one last fi eld trip in March. Check at the Museum for information since plans were incomplete by deadline time. Participation in our fi eld trips is free for members and $3 for non-members. The Quartzsite Historical Society sponsored the annual "A Walk in the Past" at the Hi Jolly Cemetery in Quartzsite on February 23. We were very fortunate to have perfect weather for the day and had an excel- lent turn out. This annual event includes reenactors playing the roles of some of our pioneers. We heard that everyone loved the Sarsaparilla Bar! Thanks to our many volunteers who helped at this event! Watch for the event next year. The Museum will be open for our winter hours through to March 31st and then will be changing to our summer hours of Thursdays from 10 to noon. Trivia Question: How many people did the lodging quarters at Tyson's Well hold? Come to the Museum to learn the answer. No phone calls please. We continue to need volunteers to assist with a variety of projects includ- ing exhibit cleaning and inventorying, computer input and general offi ce work, computer maintenance, special projects, docent assistance greet- ing the public and conducting tours, research of additional information regarding Quartzsite and general maintenance. We received a grant this year which helps fund the development of some new exhibits, as well. Membership of $10 for a year is encouraged. As a member you will receive e-mail notices of coming events, have free admission to our fi eld trips and have a vote in decisions being made regarding the Historical Society and Museum, in addition to helping fund the free Museum. We are a non-profi t historical society. Visiting the Museum is free, although donations are always welcome. The Museum is open Wednes- day through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. We are located at 161 Main Street (parking in rear). We are next door to Silly Al's. Phone (928)927-5229. E- Mail QHS@TDS.net. We continue our winter hours until late March. We are continuing to recycle plastic, aluminum and glass, which can be dropped off any time at our front gate collection can. Thanks to everyone who has been contributing!
