February 20, 2019 at 7 pm At the Quartzsite Community Center On the Road Since 1925: The Color- ful History of Arizona Highways Magazine The fi rst issue of Arizona Highways magazine was published in April, 1925. In this presentation, former publisher Win Holden will share the fascinating story of how a brochure produced by the Arizona Highway Department evolved into one of the most respected and revered publications in the world. With annual economic impact of over $65 million, Arizona Highways reaches all 50 states and over 100 countries around the world. But the journey has been anything but uneventful. With a unique publishing model not dependent on advertising, the magazine has had to unearth new sources of revenue to sustain its operations. And, as part of the Arizona Department of Transportation, has had to survive without state funding. Learn how this remarkable magazine has beaten the odds and is thriving in a competi- tive environment that has seen respected national magazines fall by the wayside. Win Holden was named the sixth Publisher of Arizona Highways Maga- zine in May 2000. The publication is recognized as one of the fi nest travel magazines in the world. The magazine has over 120,000 subscrib- ers in all 50 states and 100 countries. As Publisher, Mr. Holden led a diverse group of businesses centered on the world-renowned magazine including licensing, book publishing, calendars, e-commerce, new prod- uct development, product marketing and retailing. A Valley resident since 1980, Mr. Holden was recognized by the Arizona Offi ce of Tourism and the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association as their 2017 and 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Phoenix Business Journal. He was the 2007 inductee into the Arizona Tourism Hall of Fame. He is Chairman of the Board of the Greater Phoenix Convention and Visitor's Bureau and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Arizona Lodging and Tour- ism Association Board of Directors. He retired in June, 2018. An eight member band will play for "listen- ing and dancing" from 7-9 pm at the Quartzsite Improvement Associa- tion (QIA) for only $4.00. Bonnie says it's their last show of the year, "except for an outdoor show we do in April or May at the 5 Star Resort depending on the weather." The March 5th show will include dance tunes and clas- sic country, old time Rock and Roll, and Delta Blues. Bonnies laughs and says, "We can't list them all - too many." The QIA is located at 235 E. Ironwood, Quartzsite. The Moon Mountain gang is also playing at the Split Rail RV Park Feb 28, 7 pm. Don't miss these dates as Bonnie says "We go north when the butter melts."
