Looking forward to seeing our Friends! Not a licensed contractor EVENT TOMORROW!: February 7 our fourth speaker will be at the Community Center at 7 pm. Jay Mark will present "Specters of the Past: Arizona's Ghost Towns". The presentation explores more than a decade of Mr. Marks' journeys to these fascinating ghost places, along with their stories. The pre- sentation is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Quartzsite Historical Society, and is made possible by a grant by the Arizona Humanities. Because our speakers have generated a large turn-out this year, we have moved to the Community Center. Be sure to note the change of location. On February 20, our 5th and last speaker will be Win Holder, for- mer publisher of Arizona High- ways Magazine. He will share the fascinating story of how a brochure produced by the Arizona Highway Department evolved into one of the most respected and revered pub- lications in the world. If you have never seen these wonderful maga- zines, stop by the library to see a sample of the editions. Back issues are often for sale there as well. The presentation will be at the Commu- nity Center at 7 pm. On February 23 the Quartzsite Historical Society is sponsoring the annual "A Walk in the Past" at the Hi Jolly Cemetery in Quartzsite. Come join in the fun while volun- teers share information through role playing some of Quartzsite's more historic pioneers. If you are interested in our month- ly fi eld trip contact the museum for more information and the date. Thanks to all who have participat- ed in our events so far this season. We hope everyone enjoyed the Or- phan Train presentation! Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth in the Big Tent and a special thanks to those who volunteered in the booth. It was a great success. Trivia Question: What year did the Quartzsite Museum open and what was the name of the organi- zation that started it? Come to the Museum to learn the answers. No phone calls please. We continue to need volunteers to assist with a variety of projects includ- ing exhibit cleaning and inventorying, computer input and general offi ce work, computer maintenance, special projects, docent assistance greeting the public and conducting tours, re- search of additional information re- garding Quartzsite and general main- tenance. We received a grant this year which helps fund the development of some new exhibits, as well. Membership of $10 for a year is encouraged. As a member you will receive e-mail notices of coming events, and have a vote in decisions being made regarding the Historical Society and Museum in addition to helping fund the free Museum. Par- ticipation in our fi eld trips is free for members and $3 for non-members. We are a non-profi t historical society. Visiting the Museum is free, although donations are always welcome. The Mu- seum is open Wednesday through Sun- day, 10 am to 4 pm. We are located at 161 W. Main Street (parking in rear). We are next door to Silly Al's. Phone (928) 927-5229. E-Mail QHS@TDS.net. We are continuing to recycle plas- tic, aluminum and glass, which can be dropped off any time at our front gate collection can. Museum news
