QUARTZSITE - The Scholars’ Academy 2010 Prom will be held at Mt Quail RV Park. There will be a special dinner for attendees at the resident restaurant. Prom will begin at 8:00pm Saturday May 22nd and will conclude at Midnight. The Schol- ars’ Academy SADD Chapter is committed to keeping our peers safe this Prom and Graduation season. We will be having students sign a pledge to stay safe during Prom Night and will be passing out flyers and bracelets. There has always been a stereotype about Prom being a night to go out and party crazy until the sun comes up…well because of this assumption, the number of fatalities from underage drinking on Prom night has increased from 388 in 1983 to a stunning 502 in 2006, just in Arizona. We ask that parents set down ground rules, as well as consequences for violat- ing them. Make sure your child knows their curfew. Communicate with other parents about prom plans, stay up and wait for your prom-goers to return home, and we ask the alcohol venders in our community to not sell liquor to underage, or suspicious looking people on prom night. Teens need to know that pressure from friends and dates should not influence them to do something illegal or unsafe. Remember, if it feels bad, it probably is. We ask that the community pitch in and help us achieve this goal.
