M 19, 2010 from the mayor’s desk By West Huntley I am happy to report to you that we had a very good turnout for our Ice Cream social. Your Council members and I met some very good citizens and we conversed with them for quite some time. All in all we all had a good time and we did learn some things that our citizens are concerned about. We will address those concerns as the oppor- tunity presents itself. On another note, the Targa Trail project is getting started as the Town has done all the surveying. Also the Oregon Ave. project has all the poles marked where they will be moved. The existing electric line that’s located in the middle of the properties will be relocated to the street going south on Oregon Ave. It has been in the works for about three years. It just took a lit- tle effort on the Town’s behalf in order to move these projects along with the help of APS. APS has been very helpful with our Town. I and two other council persons had the opportunity to attend a meeting Saturday night that was put on by Rain and Starr of the Desert Messenger Newspaper. It was a fi lm of a group of Indians known as The 13 Grandmoth- ers. This group has traveled all over the world telling others of hope and spreading the good word regarding world peace. It was quite an impres- sive fi lm. They met with the leaders of different countries and I hope they made a difference as to the problems that abound. There has been another issue that has come to my attention. It seems that there was an e-mail sent to our Town Manager regarding the future solar project by Quartzsite Solar En- ergy Project. The e-mail is as follows: “Ms. Taft; I am inquiring about the status of the WorleyParson solar project. The May- or is indicating this is still a viable proj- ect. The WorleyParsons website would indicate otherwise. I think the citizens of Quartzsite deserve the truth in this matter. Yours—Edward Foster.” Now I don’t know where he got his information, but the project is going ahead as planned. The WorleyPar- sons Group is involved with the water quality for the Quartzsite Solar Energy Project. They have requested permis- sion to test the water quality of our #1 and #2 Wells. Permission was given to them to proceed. Worley Parsons group is a large company that tests water quality all over the world for all types of construction being built. An e-mail has been sent to me re- garding response to Mr. Foster’s un- warranted attack upon my character. “Update on Quartzsite Solar Energy Project: Quartzsite Solar Energy, LLC continues to develop a solar project lo- cated about ten miles north of Quartz- site. The National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) process is well underway and on schedule. Western Area Power Administration (Western) is the lead Federal agency, and URS Corporation is engaged in preparing the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Additionally, Quartzsite Solar Energy has engaged WorleyParsons to perform preliminary engineering de- sign of the project and to support the EIS/NEPA process. Updates on the public NEPA/EIS can be obtained at the following website: www.wapa.gov/transmission/quartz- sitesolar.htm Andrew Wang—Director, Develop- ment--SolarReserve” Hope this will clear up any misinfor- mation that is being said by the dissi- dents. I believe that the Bonofi de citi- zens of Quartzsite will see thru all the lies and misinformation being spread by the very few dissidents. Thank you and May God Bless you Mayor Wes Huntley C & B LOCK & KEY 33 YEARS EXPERIENCE 928-927-6589 Mobile Service Only the walk starts at marchforbabies.org We’ll be closed till mid Sept.
