2 Yon Clarion Bell Father-Son Pair Operate FranNet Together You all know the story of Jack and Jill, but have you heard of Jack and John? This father-son duo has been conducting business together for more than 10 years. Jack Armstrong started FranNet in the late 1990s and was joined by his son, John Armstrong '06, 10 years later. FranNet is the global leader in franchise consulting and brokering. Rep- resenting around 150 franchise companies, Jack and John work with po- tential franchise owners to educate them on growth benefits and assist in matching them with optimal business opportunities. Jack has been with FranNet for 23 years and has owned the company since 2005, along with several business partners. A few years later, John joined him and took the plunge from corporate life with Morgan Stanley to being an entrepreneur, along with having a family. The Armstrong team enjoys working together and, for John, he has the chance to learn from his dad, not only as a father figure, but a mentor as well. Jake Miller '03 Sits on Top of SumZero's Ranking List If you've never heard of SumZero, it's the world's largest professional investor community, and Jake Miller '03 has topped the site's rankings list for years. Jake has submitted 20 ideas to SumZero's database and achieved a 22% median and 14.52% return. Jake is an analyst at DS Advisors, a family office located in New York. For Jake, all investments are based on a fundamental assessment of absolute, intrinsic value. His mean total return across his SumZero ideas is 15.55%. Jake says the best way to describe his talent in investing is to compare it to golf—just because a person is good at golf doesn't mean they're neces- sarily good at anything else. A terrible athlete who works hard and has a good coach will be a great athlete who plays casually. To read more about Jake and his investing, visit tinyurl.com/y7an7tjs. The foundation trustees believe this structure will allow for a more open governance structure and also afford greater protections of the foun- dation's assets. Governance documents for both the foundation and association are posted on the Members Only section at www.mudke.org. If you'd like to get involved, please reach out. Although the ultimate prize of a recognized and active undergraduate chapter continues to elude us, we have a great deal of momentum behind us as an organization. In many ways, we have never been stronger. We must maintain our focus on executing our strategic plan. I encourage all of you to continue to engage with Colgate in posi- tive ways and support our alma mater during her Bicentennial celebrations. I hope to see you all at the Yale Club in NYC on February 9th and at the LPM over Reunion Weekend! Please reach out to me if you have any questions or thoughts on the above: sfitzmichaeld@msn. com or (203) 644-6032.
