2 THE ORACLE U pon his arrival to Indiana University's campus, Craig Coshow '85 was immediately invited to a recruitment event at 1210 E. Third Street—the home of Alpha-Omicron Chapter. "The friendships and acquaintances from that day sealed my obligation to be- come an associate with Lambda Chi Alpha. The opportu- nity to bond by sacred ritual with brothers from different surroundings and cultures was an eye-opening experi- ence for me." SECURING THE FUTURE From that day on, Craig and his brothers were dedicated to not only contributing their strengths to the chapter but also recruiting the next generation of leaders. "Through the associateship, I bonded with my class and we decid- ed we would take on future leadership roles as soon as we became brothers. We recruited the men we needed to become a successful chapter on campus and make it a source of pride for those that followed. Getting to know brothers both three years older and younger turned out to be the best experience for networking in both my busi- ness and personal life." CREATING UNBREAKABLE BONDS From participating in intramural IU sports to IU Sing to the Little 500 race, the foundation of Craig's ΛΧΑ re- lationships was forged through one common goal. "We were all out to make Lambda Chi a better fraternity and our dynamic teamwork was shown by all." Craig advises undergraduates to keep this in mind as they work diligently during their time as an associate, active, and alumnus brother. "Let the motto, 'Naught without Labor' be your guiding light. First, through continuous growth of a better fraternity, then to your personal suc- cess in a career, marriage, and raising your family, and finally, the continued commitment to stay in touch with your fraternal brothers. This is the essence of the shared obligation we all took." FORGING A LIFETIME OF BROTHERHOOD Following his own advice, Craig and his brothers have continued their brotherhood long after graduation. "Wed- dings, children, and the death of our parents brought us all closer together. It was a lifetime experience from the bond we had as youth." The men of their generation meet four times per year for events such as Homecoming, IU basketball games, Lit- tle 500, and even a weekend at the lakes in the summer. "This past Homecoming weekend we had 30 to 40 alum- ni attend. From Chicago to Atlanta to Texas to Indy, our brotherhood extends nationwide. All brothers are wel- come and I hope to see you all in the upcoming months." Craig lives in Decatur, Ind., and is the executive direc- tor of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. He can be reached at ccoshow@decaturchamber.org. W hen Matthias Ebeyer '20 found his home in the Big 10 at Indiana Uni- versity, his knowledge of Greek life extended only to movie portrayals and television shows. "It wasn't until my lovely mother, Jen- nifer, suggested I take part in recruitment that I seriously considered joining the community," Matthias said. "The first fraternity I went to was Lambda Chi Alpha, and they immediately proved all of my previous thoughts on Greek life wrong. I remember walking into the chapter house and being greeted by a swarm of brothers who cared about who I was, where I came from, and my goals at IU and for my future." May We Have Faith in ΛΧΑ During this discussion, Matthias never foresaw he would take on the role of High Alpha for two terms, become his high school's delegate for Hoosier Boys State, and participate in the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership seminar. "I ini- tially wanted to become High Alpha because I acquired qualities I thought would make me a strong leader, but I also saw an opportunity to give back to Lambda Chi. The chapter had al- ready introduced me to some of my best friends, provided me with resources to excel in the class- room, and the opportunity to become a better man and gentleman." May We Have Strength to Fight for Its Teachings Now, as a member of ΛΧΑ's Grand High Zeta, Matthias aims to educate the chapter on the in- ner-workings of the fraternity and International Headquarters. "After my summer 2018 intern- ship at IHQ, the 2018 General Assembly, and election to Grand High Zeta as the Grand High Theta, I believe I can educate our members on these subjects to cultivate even more respect, gratitude, and love for the fraternity." With a plethora of ΛΧΑ international experience and personal connections to chapters at Wabash, North Texas, and VCU, Matthias believes he can effectively represent the fraternity, his chapter, "Let the motto, 'Naught without Labor' be your guiding light. First, through continuous growth of a better fraternity, then to your personal success in a career, marriage, and raising your family, and finally, the continued commitment to stay in touch with your fraternal brothers. This is the essence of the shared obligation we all took." NAUGHT WITHOUT LABOR Craig Coshow '85 Reveals How to Maintain the ΛΧΑ Bond Excellent Character Only, Knowing No Retreating Steps Matthias Ebeyer '20 Elected to Grand High Zeta "I believe through Lambda Chi Alpha and taking on leadership roles, a member can grow into the man they want to be. Having this duty not only in the chapter but also other organizations has given me unforgettable experiences that I plan to learn from daily."
