4 OKLAHOMA ALPHA Alpha Artery T he 2018 spring was hugely successful for the undergraduates of Oklahoma Alpha. We hosted our second annual powder puff football philanthropy, had a great showing at SigEp's Carlson Leadership Academy, and had our best academic performance to date. The fall semester is off to a strong start with top-notch recruiting, membership development, and academics; all being supported by a brand-new chapter house that is now home to the majority of our members. Our chapter placed fourth out of 22 IFC fraternities in academics this spring, with a record high 3.38 GPA. We credit our scholastic success to the amount of time we are devoting to younger members on an individual basis through our academic mentor program. With the addition of two new state-of-the-art soundproof study rooms in our chapter house, we will be able to build on this momentum for years to come. In the spring we hosted our second annual powder puff football tournament, and it was just as fun and successful as the first. We raised $1,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters from team registration. We are excited about the new member class of 2018, which holds an average GPA of 3.68, well above our recruitment minimum of 3.25. Within our new member class are three College of Engineering students, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) Scholars, one McKnight Scholar, a neuroscientist award winner, one Eagle Scout, two valedictorians, and 10 state champion athletes. Many of our members are also serving in other ways when not focused on studies. Carson Taber '19 is our Homecoming executive this year. Cardin Hart '19 and Brent Cunningham '20 are serving on the executive team for the Student Alumni Board, a premier student organization. Dylan Harden '20 is serving on the Student Government executive cabinet as the assistant director of Speaker's Board, a student group that brings in celebrity speakers to campus every semester, in the past featuring Shaun White and Peyton Manning. To top it all off, Cardin and Vishnu Patel '19 were selected as Outstanding Greek Junior Finalists. For Homecoming, we were paired with the women of Alpha Chi Omega and participated in the Homecoming house decoration competition. We will also participate in Freshman Follies, and are paired with the women of Zeta Tau Alpha. On an award winning note, the Oklahoma Alpha Chapter won an Excelsior Award for recruitment and we were recognized for our status as a Residential Learning Community (RLC) at Carlson Leadership Academy. We had a great turnout at the chapter house dedication this fall and we are continually encouraged by our extremely supportive alumni. With a brand-new chapter house, an all-time high GPA, and a rising retention rate driven by an increasingly engaging membership development program, it's a great time to be a member of Oklahoma Alpha. While we're not relying on our new chapter house to drive our chapter development or academic achievements, we look forward to all the potential that it has to aide us as we continue to strive for excellence Oklahoma Alpha brothers preparing to give house tours on Greek Discovery Day in the spring.
