If you decide to put an Arizona plate on your unit, but it is currently on the personal property tax roll, you may want to do so in December of the current year as the Assessor's lien date is January 1st. Statute does not allow for the Assessor to prorate tax bills so you could end up paying for both personal property and a li- cense plate. If there have been changes in the status of your unit, such as a change of ownership, change of location, change of mailing address, IT IS NECESSARY TO INFORM THE AS- SESSOR'S OFFICE AT THE TIME OF THE CHANGE. Lack of timely notifi cation prevents the Assessor's offi ce from making corrections to our records in a timely manner. If our records are not timely correctly, it may result in the taxpayer paying unnecessary costs to the MVD on a plated unit or assessment cost on personal property. Please note that if you choose to plate your unit, you may still receive a per- sonal property tax bill for items such as sheds, awnings, and porches. Be sure to contact your local planning and zoning offi ce to determine if you need a permit for these additions. If you plan to move your mobile home, you need to contact the As- sessor's offi ce before you do so. YOU MUST GET A 504 TAX CLEARANCE PERMIT BEFORE MOVING THE UNIT. There is no charge to the tax- payer for this permit. It only takes our offi ce staff a few minutes to pro- cess this permit. (A fi ne may apply if no permit is obtained). Assessor's Corner If you are a property owner and al- lowing someone to place their unit on your property, please contact the Assessor's offi ce to make sure the as- sessment of the unit is in their name unless you choose to have it assessed on your property. Pursuant to Arizona Revised Stat- utes, Section 42-19153, all units re- maining in the State of Arizona for a period of 6 months or more must be titled in the State of Arizona and either carry current Arizona registra- tion with the MVD or be placed on the personal property tax roll. Units subject to this tax are: • Units used as a permanent resi- dence • Units used as seasonal residence and remaining in a mobile home or recreational vehicle park • Units located in a storage lot or building • Units used as an offi ce or for busi- ness purposes • Units located on residential lots Only units carrying current ARIZO- NA registration are exempt. As always, you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our offi ce. We are here for you, the tax- payer.
