November 21, 2018 www.DesertMessenger.com 21 Dandelion & its benefits by Herbmama We all know about the weed we once tried to get rid of on our lawns.... many of us now think of it differently & know how benefi cial this 'weed' can be to our health! That is IF we aren't too late & poured too many pesti- cides & poisons on them in recent years. All parts of the dandelion are great for us!!!! They are extremely high in Vitamins A, B, C, D & K and high in the minerals calcium, copper, zinc, phosphorus, iron, manganese & potassium!!!! *Acts as a blood purifying agent. *A mild laxative for constipation symptoms. *Contains the antioxidant luteolin (a citrus bio-fl avonoid) *Stimulates urinary function to help fl ush out toxins from the kidneys *Promotes optimal digestive function. *Supports normal bile production. *Nourishes and boosts overall liver (hepatic) performance. *Serves to protect the liver from damage. *Helps with a sluggish digestive sys- tem, because of the bitters, so that the body can remove toxins & other waste quicker, as a result the liver doesn't have to work as hard. *Helps to maintain normal blood sugar levels. *Blood purifi er according to folk medicine. *Great source of potassium. *Helps to regulate and normalize hormone production. Fact: the greens of the dandelion plant provide 535% of the recom- mended daily value of Vit. K which may be the most im- portant source of any other plant-based food to strengthen bones, but may also play a role in fi ghting Alzheimer's disease by limiting neuron damage to the brain. Dandelion greens also give the body 112% of the minimum requirements of Vita- min A, an antioxidant carotenoid which is particularly good for the skin, mucous membranes & vision. There is also evidence dandelion greens might prove helpful in treat- ing AIDS & herpes. The roots show an ever-increasing possibility in the fi ght against cancer! However, dandelion can interfere with some prescriptions & that is called contraindications...SO if you are taking lithium, quinolones or have allergies to the leaf or have en- docrine impairment, do not take the leaves or any part of the plant until it has been discussed with your doctor. This is not intended to treat, cure or heal any type of illness or dis- ease. For more information, contact Herbmama at 580-490-1770. Be sure to 'like' us on FB or visit www. herbs-4-health.com WOW!!! We are a hopping busy place. Thanks so much for your patience at the register and at the donation corner out in front of our store. It really helps when dropping off donations that you pull up along the side corner where the donation carts are, thus not blocking the fl ow of drive through traffi c. We now have the White Sheet distribution stand out front. We have had several requests and when contacted, they responded with a box almost immediately. Thanks, Michelle in LHC. Congratulations to Lois as the raffl e winner for the lap quilt in our latest raffl e supporting QPD Explorer Post #928 fundraising to attend tactical competition event It is Bell Ringing time. Thanks to those that are already scheduled. Think about doing this fun event for such a good cause. You can pick your time and ring once, or weekly- you decide. Bells, fl utes, guitars will be at Coyote Market, Family Dollar, HCB Bank, Post Offi ce, and Roadrunner Market. 100% of funds collected stay here locally. Stop in and sign up. Again, this year we have assisted our local Carol's Cupboard Food bank by purchasing food items from The Roadrunner Market and Coyote Market. This will supplement their Thanksgiving food boxes that are distributed in our community. This year we also purchased turkeys and trimmings for Eve's Place. Quartzsite Salvation Army also purchased hams, turkeys, sweet potatoes and dinner rolls, to supplement Isaiah 58 Project's home cooked Thanksgiving turkey and ham dinner. It is also Salvation Army Angel Tree ® time. Tags will be ready to be picked up Friday after Thanksgiving by our awesome shoppers that earn their Angel wings by going shopping for and making a Quartzsite's child's Christmas special. Names of children have been identifi ed by local agen- cies and submitted to the QFD. Please let us know of any families with children 15 and under that might need assistance for a joyous Christmas. We have coordinated with Quartzsite Fire Department who will pick up our wrapped gifts and make delivery of packages with Santa. We can al- ways use extra elves to assist with wrapping gifts and organizing the "toy trailer" that will be here. The Freedom Riders toy drive will be bringing toys that will need to be sorted and wrapped. Our pictures with Santa event will be December 22. Details later. Be kind, be thoughtful, be genuine. But most of all. Be Thankful.
