THe Delta messenger A PUBLICATION FOR ALUMNI OF DELTA H ALPHA GAMMA RHO FALL 2018 INVESTING IN BETTER MEN...THE CAMPAIGN FOR DELTA T he men of Delta Chapter were greeted with a fully renovated chapter house upon returning to Purdue University this fall. The aggressive construction schedule paid off as the project wrapped up on time and on budget. The local contracting firm of JR Kelly Company did an exceptional job of keeping it on track and making adjustments as needed. Our dream to build the most student-centered fraternity house on campus has come true. The members are enjoying increased study space on every floor, the best available Wi-Fi, a high-tech conference room (sponsored by the Class of 1956), enhanced meeting rooms for group gatherings, and a larger library. The addition of whole house air conditioning, a renovated kitchen and dining room, new bathrooms, reconfigured rooms, and new flooring and furniture all add to the comfort of their home away from home. The heritage of our century-old institution was preserved with the renovation of the formal parlor to include extra shelves and cases to display our historical items, including a window from the original 607 University house prominently on display in the foyer. We encourage you to stop by and take a look at the improvements. However, the construction phase was just part of the campaign. We are still actively seeking your support for the Investing in Better Men campaign to ensure the chapter house is well maintained and we can keep the housing rates affordable. We encourage you to consider individual or class donations to support the campaign as we close in on our fundraising goal. We have made it easier than ever to give at agrpurdue.com/donate. Together, we can ensure these young men will have the same great Delta Chapter experience we did. Fraternally, Tony Hahn '95 House Corporation President anthonyhahn@gmail.com (317) 938-2422 Chapter House Renovations Are Complete We Still Need Your Support Alumnus Endows in the Future of Delta Chapter Nathan Manges '05 and the Class of '05 Brothers' Devotion to ΑΓΡ F or Nathan Manges '05, the biggest reason to join with Alpha Gamma Rho was family. "My dad and multiple uncles were ΑΓΡ brothers," Nathan explained, "and with my background growing up in Pendleton, Ind., ΑΓΡ was a great fit for me." Little did Nathan realize that not only would this lead him to a career at Purdue, but also lifelong friendships, particularly with his 25-member class. Nathan graduated in 2009 with a bachelor's in agribusi- ness, followed by an MBA from Purdue in 2014. His time at Purdue did not stop there, as he continues to work on campus as Purdue's assistant director of real estate. "I had such a great experience as an undergrad in the house and love the city of West Lafayette. I've loved Purdue all my life, so I decided to pursue a career there." Nathan's involvement with Delta Chapter has also continued in his current role as chapter adviser. "ΑΓΡ really shapes guys into adults during formative years," he said. "The house surrounded me with friends and brothers I'd do anything for, and want to carry on that feeling to future classes." Those close friends largely include Nathan's brothers in the class of 2005. Nathan recalls an excellent group of senior class leaders during his freshman year. "We tried to emulate them as much as possible." Something truly special for Nathan is watching today's undergrads carry out traditions that his class helped start, including the Blizzard Blowout winter formal and the Sandy Slam philanthropy volleyball tournament. To this day he and his class brothers, such as Nathan Burke '05, Kolby Gustin '05, Clark Jordan '05, and Evan Schlegelmilch '05, remain close and stay in touch regularly. "When we reconnect, it's like we never left; that's a great feeling. I hope the new house helps the next generation create the same type of lasting memories." Since graduation, the class of '05 has remained one of the more active Delta Chapter classes. They have a number of members on the house corporation board and helped spearhead the capital campaign. Nathan credits Joel Fulkerson '05 with helping motivate their class for this contribution. "I think we all have a strong belief that this needs to be done to maintain the house for future classes," Nathan said. "As an adviser, I have a good perspective on what the house needs to stay top-notch, and in my university role I have a great look on student housing in general. This campaign is about the future of the house and how ΑΓΡ can stay on top for the next 30 years." Nathan and his wife, Ashley, live in West Lafayette, Ind., with their 1-year-old daughter, Sophie. "Greek life has been important to me," Nathan said, "so I'll certainly encourage Sophie to go Greek if it's right for her." Together, they love attending Purdue sports, especially basketball and softball, tailgating, and going to Lake Freeman in the summer. You can connect with Nathan at nathan.manges@gmail.com.
