Box 442100 Lawrence, Ks 66044-2100 Address Service Requested anthem in French to win a contest between all of the fraternities and sororities on campus. "We hired a French-natured lady to come over to teach us how to sing in French. We found a really sharp lady to come over there," George said. "I think that's what won us the prize that year be- cause foreign languages impressed teachers, and most of them that were judging it were teach- ers. They thought, 'Oh, these guys are singing in French.'" The Omicron singing group, which consisted of 75-85 men, also won second-place and third- place prizes in different contests under George's leadership. The experience was rewarding for George even after college because some of his brothers got the chance to go to France and sing the French national anthem on Bastille Day. "There was nothing more exciting," George said. "They would call me up on the phone and tell me that they had gotten there on Bastille Day, the 14th of July, and would go to a bar and sing with the guys." Prior to leading the men of Kappa Alpha, George gained valuable experience as a drum major in military school in Atlanta. George also had the honor of being a guest conductor of the Rich- mond symphony. While George enjoyed being active in Kappa Alpha as the chapter's song leader, finding a ca- reer path presented more of a challenge to him than finding a pitch. George earned his degree in architecture, but realized after his time at the University of Texas that he was better-suited for a different occupation. Once George found his niche in advertising, he didn't take long to find success. George spent the final decade of his 30-year ad- vertising career as the owner of Ginn Advertising in Richmond. No event was too small for George to promote, as he was the first advertising agent for the Virginia state fair. "That was really fun. They used to ask me, 'What's it like being in advertising?' I said, "Well, it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on.' I don't know where I got that expres- sion from, but we believed in it." You can contact George at (804) 740-3686.
