the betA Piper PAge 2 T o date, The North Shall Increase capital campaign has collected $621,356.07 towards the chapter house renovations of recent years. These donations represent 82 percent of the total pledged commitment of $759,349. Pledges continue to come in, but the frequency is slowing dramatically. It is concerning, as it impacts our society's ability to fulfill lender obligations and keep up ongoing expenses (e.g., building maintenance). One of our current priorities is to collect campaign pledges that are behind schedule. If you have a past due pledge, a forthcoming pledge/gift coming up, we request that you fulfill the gift in a timely fashion. The Beta Theta Pi Society of Minnesota is heavily leveraged with overall debt of $603,786 comprised of the following: Western-Bank Mortgage .................................. $162,167 Western-Bank Construction Loan ..................... $68,200 University of Minnesota Foundation Loan ..... $273,585 Chapter and Alumni Promissory Notes ............. $46,569 Other short-term credit debt .............................. $53,265 The construction loan must be paid off in full by March 1, 2019. Since the completion of our major chapter house renovation, we have been relying on the proceeds of campaign contributions to pay down the principal of the construction loan and other related debt. For us to meet this deadline, we need to collect on average $11,000 per month. It is imperative that donors send their donations in on time and for those who are delinquent on their pledges to submit their gift. Thank you for your support. When you give, you help ensure that the active members continue having a well maintained chapter house, our alumni society fulfills its purpose, and we meet our financial obligations. WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS RECRUITMENT UPDATE This fall was a difficult but rewarding time in the Greek community for both IFC and Panhellenic recruitment. IFC saw a decline in the number of men signed up for rush of roughly 40% from last year, with similar numbers for Panhellenic. With that, Beta saw a decline in our newest pledges of only about 20% while not sacrificing the quality of our pledges with a 17-man pledge class. This situation has kept us grounded in our values as an organization and given the chapter a welcome challenge in recruitment. We are excited about the quality men who have joined our organization and look forward welcoming them into the brotherhood. I t was with great pleasure that a number of Minnesota Betas from the '80s gathered in Phoenix on a very warm June day to celebrate the wedding of my little brother, Jim Keeler '89. After the wedding, Jim and Maggie spent some time in Sedona, Arizona, enjoying the high plains geology and relaxing atmosphere. Jim has been a staunch supporter of Beta, including the recent capital campaign supporting the Beta Pi chapter house, and in service of numerous national leadership roles. He is still working for Nationwide Insurance, so please look him up on social media or email him at keelerj85258@msn.com. and wish him well. In__kai__, Brent Anderson '85 Congratulations, Jim Keeler '89 Andy Burns '90, Mark Chambers ' 89, Marc Anderson '89, Jim Keeler '89, John Chambers '88, Brent Anderson ' 85 and Chris Ganos '89. Needless to say, Wooglin's spirit was present and everyone had a great weekend participating in the pre-wedding and post-wedding activities. We Need Your Continued Support Want to give? There are multiple ways to make these gifts, including a tax-deductible option to the Beta Theta Pi Foundation in Oxford, Ohio. If you choose this option, please ensure your gift is designated to the Minnesota Chapter. You may also send checks to our P.O. Box (Dinkytown Station- P.O. Box 13225, Minneapolis, MN 55414) or donate via www.betathetapisocietymn.org (look for a donation button).
