Box 34004 Lexington, KY 40588 Address Service Requested cannot go wrong with classic design. "I wanted to embody the historic structure with sophisticated, classic and comfortable, yet functional elements for the young women who would be living and visiting there." Carole took into account alumnae of all ages when visualizing the design incorporating mixed antiques with classic new items and colorful contemporary art. "I wanted the Kappa women to be proud of their new house, yet still recognize the original structure from their memories. The chapter house was designed for women, and features a feminine, light, and fresh feeling in most areas." "The Beta Chi chapter house project was an ABSOLUTE joy! Thank you Libby and Elizabeth for your time spent with me on this project and giving the team the freedom and trust to pull it all together." Carole resides in Raleigh, N.C., with her husband, Ed Hollowell, and their two daughters. Their oldest, Margaret, is a sophomore in East Carolina University and a member of Alpha Delta Pi and their youngest, Camille, is a senior in high school at St. Mary's. "She is excited to attend college and join a sorority!" You can view Carole's work at www.carolehollowellinteriors.com. Carole Hollowell Aimed for the Sky (Continued from page 3) UNDERGRADUATES TO HOST GIRLS ACADEMY Recruitment Blossoms with New Chapter House T he Beta Chi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma is looking forward to a year full of exciting changes and improvements. Back in our beautiful new home on 238 E. Maxwell Street, the fall 2018 semester has already taken off in full swing and we invite you to take part in its continued success. Over the summer, officers were busy preparing innovative activities to engage our members within our chapter and beyond. In terms of leadership, five members, including myself, had the opportunity to attend the National Kappa Kappa Gamma Convention in Denver, Colo. We gained invaluable skills tailored to our positions, had the chance to vote on new bylaws, and met Kappa women from across the nation. Academically, our chapter is yet again in a competitive spot as we ranked fifth out of 15 Panhellenic chapters for the spring 2018 semester. With the fall 2018 primary recruitment complete, we added 82 incredible new members to our sisterhood. With a newly implemented delayed recruitment style, welcoming almost 1,400 Potential New Members into our new home was no simple feat. Yet, with such a beautiful house and dedicated members, recruitment was nothing short of a success. Our first retreat with the new members, "Kamp Kappa," was held at a 4-H camp in London, Kentucky. The 2018 pledge class had the weekend to participate in team building activities, bond in small groups, and get to know older members of the chapter. The new house welcomes opportunities to get involved, to meet new people, join Monday night dinners and study sessions, to attend sisterhood events, and ultimately, feel at home. My favorite part about our new house is how it exemplifies the passion, diligence, and servitude of the members who call it home. We are so excited to host our second annual philanthropy event, "The Amazing Race," this fall to raise money in support of Reading Is Fundamental. We will be partnering with Millcreek Elementary School for the Reading Is Key event this semester, and we will be able to provide 500 free books to the students. It's my pleasure to announce that Beta Chi has been selected to host a GIRLS Academy event this spring at Winburn Middle School. It is an honor to be one of approximately 10 chapters selected for this nationally. During recruitment, we created nearly 1,900 goodie bags filled with academic essentials supporting literacy; our sisters will be delivering the bags directly to students through RIF and GIRLS Academy. Not only do Beta Chi women want to serve, they are driven to lead as well. We are thrilled to announce that one of our sisters, Noor Ali '15, was elected as the University of Kentucky Student Body vice president in the spring 2018 semester. She shared, "My Beta Chi sisters were instrumental in the success of my election! Not only were they posting about me on social media and getting my name out there, but they also comforted me in stressful times." I am honored to speak on behalf of the Beta Chi Chapter and to extend our sincere gratitude for the continued support and dedication of alumnae. We are blessed to have a chapter built on such a firm foundation, and we cannot wait to see how we can continue to grow and lead the future of Kappa Kappa Gamma women. We hope you get the chance to visit our beautiful white house on East Maxwell Street and continue to take part in the sisterhood that we all hold so dear. Loyally, Hannah Howard '15 Chapter President kkgbx.president@gmail.com The first round of open house was a huge success. Kat Regan '16, Alyssa Bickett '17, and Elizabeth Warren '16 enjoy each others company in the sun room at the Kappa house!
