THE TAXI NEWS PAGE 2 In Memory of Alex Williams '21 O n July 19, Alex Williams '21 passed away in a late-night hiking accident. The shocking news quickly spread through the Alpha Sigma Chapter active members. At first it seemed like a sick joke, but there was only silence and repeated confirmation of the tragic event. Many of the active brothers drove down to the chap- ter house the day after hearing the news to grieve. A few days later, brothers attended the visitation and funeral service. Listening to the memories of Alex from his family brought comfort and closure. Alex strove for greatness. He was a friend to all and brought endless joy and laughter to the Alpha Sigma Chapter. He was dedicated to his studies, achieving a 3.30 GPA in his first year at Bradley. After only weeks of be- ing initiated, he became involved with the functions of the fraternity as the social events chairman. He was also voted president-elect for the 2019 school year. He was going to be a key part in the revival of the Alpha Sigma Chapter. Alex will be dearly missed. 1948 Founders Society ($2,500 and up) Craig S. Janus '00 John T. Grandle '58 Larry M. Salvatori '65 L ast school year, we distributed $12,850 in scholarships to students while raising over $25,000 in donations to boost our schol- arship endowment fund, which might get over $150,000 principal balance by year end. That being said, we had to replace two of our four AC units for about $8,500. It's only a mat- ter of time before we need another $8,500 to replace the other two. The furnaces only have three to five years left on them, and they will be nearly $15,000 to replace. Building our reserves to replace essential components as they break may not be exciting, but that's our highest need right now. For wants, our active brothers would like to ren- ovate the bathroom and kitchen. They recently did the kitchen flooring themselves, and I sus- pect would be willing to provide labor if any- one has the knowledge and skill to help them get that done at a cheaper price than hiring out and paying retail prices. WE THANK YOU, ALUMNI, FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT O ver the past year, 21 generous alumni contributed to our annual campaign. Having alumni who continue to believe in the Alpha Sigma Chapter is what makes us strong. Alpha Sigma is a lifetime commitment, and we hope more alumni will recommit to the brotherhood by contributing to our ongoing annual campaign. If an error has been made in recording the amount of your gift, we sincerely apologize. If corrections to your giving records are needed, please send them to hcarney@penningtonco.com. Thank you, again, for your loyal support. Evaluating the Needs and Wants of Alpha Sigma Drew Potter '15, Max Rydell '17, and John Kiolbasa '00 helped put in the new floor during alumni work week.
