PeterHeinl lein, MD, is the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecol- ogy at San Rafael Medical Center. He's also a graduate of San Rafael High School. Dr. Heinlein, who graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, in Cleveland, OH, did his residency at UC Davis Medical Center before coming home. "My whole family is here," he says. "I've also never found anywhere else in the world that's a better place to live." Emergency Medicine phy- sician Brian Nishinaga, MD, went across the country for medical school, attending Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, in Bronx, NY. He followed that with a residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/ Weill Cornell Medical Center. But the Terra Linda High graduate quickly returned to prac- tice here. "I count myself blessed to have been able to return home to support the community that has given so much to me," he says. "As an emergency physician, it's hum- bling to be able to provide a famil- iar face to others, especially in their time of crisis." The of ffi fice off San Rafael internist Teresa Caron, MD, looks out over the elemen- tary school she once attended. Dr. Caron, who went to Dart- mouth Medical School in Hanover, NH, did her residency at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara. Dr. Caron has an attachment not just to Marin County, but to Kaiser Permanente in general: "My grandparents were some of the first Kaiser Perman- ente patients," she says. These three aren't the only physicians with deep roots in the community.
