D PersonalizedCancerCare "Thisisagreatplacetogetcancercare.It'sA-number-one-excellent." GEORGE MALONEY,cancerpa entandfatherofDr.DanielMaloney r.DanielMaloneyknewhewanted to treat cancer patients since child- hood. Today, Dr. Maloney is board certified in hematology and oncology, and he is the Chief of Oncology at the Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center. It was his mother Barbara Maloney's cancer and successful treatment when young Danny was in the third grade that set him on his path. "Cancer has been woven into my life since an early age," says Dr. Maloney. Now, his father George Maloney is receiving cancer treatment at the San Rafael Oncology and Infusion Services Center, where Dr. Maloney is chief. George's treating physician is Dr. Je- rome Kim, another team member pro- viding expert medicine and care. "This is a great place to get cancer care. It's A-number-one-excellent," says George. "I have tremendous confidence in the whole team. You can feel it when you come here." George has been coming for cancer care for over a year and a half, accompanied by his wife of nearly 51 years, Barbara. The Oncology Department has board certified oncologists, hematologists, and nurse practitioners to deliver state of the art diagnostic and treatment service. They have an active clinical trials department that offers new and emerging treatment options. Along with Oncology/Infusion services, the center houses Palliative Care ex- perts to serve patient and family needs without delay. The new office also provides an 18-chair infusion suite, free onsite parking and Wi-Fi, and video/ TV/music options for patients—all com- plemented by a soothing and comfort- able atmosphere. This healing environment, which opened in August 2017, reflects and supports the medical team's compas- sionate, multidisciplinary approach to providing personalized treatment and specialty care for each patient. This led The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons to grant three-year accreditation to the Kaiser Permanente San Rafael cancer program. It has been designated as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. "It is an honor to practice in the same area where I grew up. I find it extremely gratifying to offer the latest and great- est in cancer care, and to offer a per- sonalized approach for each patient that comes through our doors," says Dr. Maloney. "I think of the hundreds of people affected by my mom's good outcome many years ago—her family, her friends, her students, her com- munity—and I embrace the privilege of carrying that out for the patients that I now treat." Dr. Daniel Maloney, shown with parents Barbara and George, is Chief of Oncology at San Rafael Medical Center. The San Rafael Oncology and In- fusion Services Center also offers many supportive care services: • Survivorship support groups • Cancer support groups • Acupuncture • Social workers • Lymphedema services • Chemotherapy education classes • Oncology & nutrition classes • Integrative therapies AHealthyCommunity - KaiserPermanente October28,2018 3
