PI KAPPA ALPHA • UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS • FALL 2018 A new Beta Mu house will be built at 2400 Leon! It is going to hap- pen. I say that as I have had several alumni come to me and say, "I never thought a new house would be built, so I'm not going to make a pledge," or "I only pledged a small amount." If you have held back for whatever reason, please join us in contributing to this vital (and real) cause. City permits are progressing nicely and once granted, we are going to work in May 2019. We now need everyone to chip in and support the campaign. When I look back at my own Beta Mu experience, I can see how the friend- ships, leadership and service helped shape who I am now. As an undergrad- uate member, Beta Mu was my home and family in Austin. Beta Mu is still providing the same experience for our actives today. As alumni it is important to support the next generation. We have made amazing progress since starting our campaign and our alumni have com- mitted $4,279,195 in support of the Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future campaign. We are $720,000 from our goal with only 13.5% of our 1,610 living alumni participating. If we spread the load and more brothers contribute, we can easily reach our participation goal—the national fraternity fundraising av- erage of 20 percent. Fraternities are growing nationally, not contracting as the media reports. At UT Austin, we've seen Fiji, Kappa Sig and Phi Psi open new, multi-mil- lion dollar houses in the last two years. Delta Tau Delta announced a $9 million house project this year with an alumni campaign underway soon. Sigma Chi breaks ground next May on a $10 million new house. Pike must remain competitive and aer 62 years of great memories, we all agree that a new, modern house at 2400 Leon is vital to our success, both for our growing chapter and our enjoyment as alumni. Read in this issue about the many great young men in the new 31-member pledge class and get to know Beta Mu's President Garrett Beirne '16, a junior from Lake Travis studying advertising. e new house will help sustain Pike for years to come. If you have not yet made a contribution in support of your Beta Mu broth- ers, I urge you to make a pledge. If you have already made a pledge, please consider stretching your commitment and adding an extra year to your payment schedule. Fill out the enclosed pledge card, or visit www. texaspike.com to help us raise the remaining balance. e new chapter house will provide all of us with the kind of facility that promotes interaction between actives and alumni, helping to strengthen existing relationships and foster new ones. e new house will open in 2020 during Beta Mu's centennial on the UT campus. We are close to our goal, but we need your help now! Yours in phi phi ka, John A. (Continued on page 4) Texas Pikes have a philanthropic goal of eight hours per man per semester in community service, equating to more than 2,000 man hours per school year.
