THE ZETA CHI PIKELINE ZETA CHI CHAPTER OF PI KAPPA ALPHA AT MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY Zeta Chi Unearths Treasure D uring the summer of 2017, Zeta Chi learned that their original house, from the first class, was going to be razed. e entire block has since been transformed into a new de- velopment and history of the house remains in the minds and hearts of those who graced the halls. As word spread of the impending demolition, several alumni began sharing tales of old. ere was lore about a time capsule buried in the front yard and speculation on whether it could be unearthed before the bulldozers made it ob- solete. Another story that kept popping up on the radar was that of the Pike crest that had been painted on a sacred wall by Jeb Bischoff '76. It was determined that an investigation needed to oc- cur, so Mike Pearson '75 and Alex Schlitt '13 led the charge. e long-abandoned house smelled of spoiled food, mysterious chemicals, and forgotten youth. e environment further inspired them to rescue the crest if it had survived since Zeta Chi's departure in 1990. Mike Call '76 was able to remember, within inches, where the crest had adorned the space. Armed with this information, Pearson and Schlitt began to carefully remove the sheetrock. Taking their time, but certainly not wanting to be discovered, they were ecstatic to see hints of garnet and gold paint. e crest lived! is precious piece of memorabilia is proudly on display at the present Zeta Chi house. It hangs as a reminder of the bonds of brotherhood, across the ages. e men of Zeta Chi hope the legacy will be everlasting and the crest will be protected for decades to come. e event was a success and even resulted in three to four job offers from various alumni. "I had essentially set the expectation for each slide- show for years to come. I even created a nice li- brary of slides and standardized the process. It was a blast working on it!" Although the slides have since been lost to time along with the slideshow tradition, Robert still capitalizes on his ability to bring people together. In 1993, he gathered alumni from across genera- tions for a reunion and still enjoys spearheading these events or visiting the chapter house. "All it takes is one phone call or one visit for you to reconnect with Pike. You have to engage with your brothers, talk to them, and attend events. e Alumni Association is a great way to stay in touch. ey have a good chapter, strong leader- ship, and need our support. ey are always look- ing to engage more alumni. " Robert sums up his Pike experience as one that opened his eyes and helped broaden his horizons. He pursued his passion for photography and avia- tion, eventually becoming an air traffic controller and receiving his commercial pilot's certificate. "I think the fraternity gave me confidence in both myself and my abilities. I still look to active mem- bers who came before me and admire this quality in them." Robert lives in Layton, Utah, and can be reached at rdjnm@msn.com. If alumni are interested in staying in touch or updating their contact information, Robert can also be reached at (801) 458-7920.
