PAGE 3 The DelTa Chi eDuCaTional FounDaTion I t is an exciting time for the Delta Chi Educational Foundation and our strong and growing base of donors! The feedback from those attending the 61st International Convention in Denver and the first-ever Trustee Society Experience was overwhelmingly positive. We're already thinking about another exciting Trustee Society Experience at the 2020 Convention in St. Louis. For information on how you too can become a Trustee of the Educational Foundation, contact Jason Sisk, New Mexico State '03, the Educational Foundation's Annual Giving Coordinator, at jsisk@dcef.com. The 2018 Membership Meeting in Denver was an opportunity to elect Brother Travis Covey, New Mexico State '04, to the Educational Foundation's Board of Directors. Brother Covey has been active on the Foundation's Undergraduate and Young Alumni Giving Committee and we welcome him to the board. Changes to the Educational Foundation's Executive Committee were also made during our Denver meeting. The positions are as follows: Donald LaPlante, Southern California, – Vice President of Programs Andrew Haggerty, New Mexico State '03, – Vice President of Committees Don Turk, Florida '68, – Secretary John Ziegler, Louisiana Tech '01, – Treasurer We are very pleased with the commitment and readiness of the new Executive Committee for the coming two years. In addition to these changes, we are in the midst of a seamless handoff of the Chairman position, between me and Brother Jim Marascio, Bryant '93. As the new Chairman, I'd like to share a few words with you as to why I'm so passionate about the Educational Foundation: Delta Chi has always played a strong role in my education. As an Associate Member, learning that one of our Fraternity's core principles is to "assist in the acquisition of a sound education" cemented the bond I felt toward the brothers at Georgia Tech. Furthermore, one of my chapter's four founding principles is that "Grades and school come first." Thinking back, there certainly were times when school seemed too challenging, yet the desire to come back and enjoy time with my brothers and in Delta Chi activities led me to enroll again for the next semester. Maybe that happened to you too. I believe that pull of brotherhood is the same reason so many of us remain involved as alumni. As a New Founder, and now as the Chair- man, I understand how my experiences and our members' educational plans were directly impacted by alumni and donors through the leadership and scholarship initiatives that DCEF promotes. I hope you will join me as we expand the influ- ence and scope of our Educational Foun- dation in the years ahead. You'll hear more about new plans and programs in future "Chairman's Message" columns of The Knight Errant. And some final words and thoughts from Jim as he concludes a successful 7 1/2 years as President and Chairman of the Educational Foundation. When I think back to the state of the DCEF at the start of my tenure to where we are today in our partnership with the Fraternity's leadership, I'm truly humbled by the hard work and dedication of all the men in both organizations whom I've had the pleasure of serving, as we strived toward a holistic approach of advancing Delta Chi. I never imagined I would serve as your President, and certainly not for as long as I have, but the experience has meant the world to me and my family. I will remain immediately involved on the Executive Committee, filling the Member- at-Large seat, and throughout my life as a fellow donor. The Foundation has experienced a tremendous growth in the number of donors and accounts over the past decade. Under Lyle's leadership I'm confident that this trend will continue. Thank you to all our donors for your faithful support. The International Fraternity, our chapters, and individual members are better because of your involvement. The "A"s' Academy is well into its second decade of positively affecting more than 100 chapter leaders each year. This past summer brought the second annual Emerging Leaders Academy, supported by numerous donors. I'm most excited about the ELA and its potential for growth. Our peers in the industry have funded similar initiatives of all-expenses-paid sessions for upwards of 300-1,700 students. When I think of how this volume could impact the sustainability and growth of our chapters, I am renewed in my devotion for giving, and giving generously. Please continue to provide support at (or exceeding) your current giving. Also, please share your commitment by helping us to recruit additional financial supporters of Delta Chi. More than ever, our Fraternity needs the backing of its alumni and friends. On behalf of all of the Directors of your Educational Foundation, THANK YOU for your continued support of our brotherhood's acquisition of a sound education! Fraternally, Lyle Sprinkle, Georgia Tech '96 President and Chairman of the Board of Directors The Delta Chi Educational Foundation Jim Marascio, Bryant '93 Past President and Chairman Changes and Handoffs at the Delta Chi Educational Foundation New Leadership Excited to Serve Delta Chi—Thank You to Our Outgoing Leadership!
