2 UNITED WAY OF NORTHWEST ARKANSAS • CAMPAIGN TIP-OFF EVENT 2018-2019 About the United Way of NWA Welcome to the United Way of Northwest Arkansas' first-ever Campaign Tip-Off! The United Way of Northwest Arkansas (UWNWA) has been a part of the Northwest Arkansas community in different ways since 1931, and currently serves Benton, Madison, and Washington counties in Arkansas and McDonald County in Southern Missouri. While the organization has hosted a Campaign Kick-Off for years, the move to a Tip-Off reflects both the continued evolution of UWNWA as an organization and our recognition that United We Win. Bringing the community together around a sporting event illustrates that we are not just fundraisers; we are hand raisers, game-changers, and community builders. Just as a three-point score or a slam dunk can change the momentum of a game, people willing to raise their hands to help a neighbor can shift the direction of the community. The mission of the UWNWA is to unite the community to empower people and improve lives. This is accomplished through our investment in programs working to lift children and their families out of poverty and through specific initiatives designed to improve the lives of people and the capacity of nonprofit organizations working across our community. Our vision for Northwest Arkansas is to be a place with a clear understanding that poverty affects the lives of children and their families, causing lost potential within the local community. We aspire to unite the community by enabling families to lift themselves out of poverty or, better yet, to establish habits and practices that prevent them from falling into poverty. United We Win.
