Delta Gamma at the University of Iowa Fall 2018 INSIDE: Thank You, Alumnae p. 2 • Delta Gamma Sisters Reach New Heights p. 3 A Breath of Fresh Air Tau Chapter Completes ΔΓ Beach Renovations H appy fall! The House Corporation Board enjoyed planning and watching the new ΔΓ Beach project come to life this summer, and it looks beautiful! Next summer, we'll add some dry creek beds along with more plantings to really finish the space. We also completed some less glamorous projects around the Chapter house, including upgrading our gutters and downspouts in order to prevent backups that could damage the facility. Overall, the curb appeal of Tau is starting to match the beautiful inside space. Join Tau's House Corporation Board We are looking for volunteers to join Tau's House Corporation Board! If you are in the Iowa City area and are interested in getting involved, please contact me for more information. It is a minimal commitment, but your involvement can impact the Chapter house in a big way. In the Bonds, Alissa Sabers '06 House Corporation President alissasabers@gmail.com W ithin minutes of entering the Tau Chapter house, Andrea Gurke '15 felt overwhelmed by the level of comfort, confidence, and unconditional acceptance exuded by each ΔΓ sister. "I had an internal feeling that has allowed me to showcase who I am and find others similar to myself. Why would I ever want to leave a place where I can be who and want I want to be?" Living in the Chapter house provided Andrea with academic support, bonding opportunities, and challenging leadership positions. Whether attending formal Chapter or enjoying a lazy Sunday watching Jersey Shore, Andrea's sisters remain present in each aspect of her life. "There is always something to do or someone to talk to. I was living in a house full of women my age, all dealing with similar problems and enjoying life together." Even during her time as the vice president of social standards, she found her support system by her side every step of the way. "These women are the funniest I've ever met, so they make anything exciting. When I served as the vice president of social standards, it was one of the most challenging years of my life, but so rewarding. The position prepared me for real-world challenges because I became a better listener, friend, and leader. I learned about what I believe in and how to properly advocate for myself and my goals." The friendships forged through the ups and downs of life are each integral parts of Andrea's identity and she plans to maintain her commitment to these bonds. "My Delta Gamma friendships are important because we have put the time and effort into each relationship. Staying connected with one or two people from your Chapter will remind you why you joined and why you all became friends." Andrea strives to proudly display her Delta Gamma membership in her personal and professional life as one of seven students accepted into the University of Iowa's radiation therapy program. "I proudly wear my letters for many reasons. I want my professors to know who I am when I'm participating in class. I want my workout instructor to know who I am when I show up for a workout. I want people to see me and think highly of Delta Gamma because of the hard work I put into my life." Naut for College Days Alone How Andrea Gurke '15 Plans to Stay Connected with Tau
