Celebrating 100 Years in Business Thisyear,PiniHardwareInc.has been celebrating its centennial year in business; a recognized achievement that spans across generations. Founded in 1918, Swiss immigrant Henry Pini paved the road to success with his first store as a small grocery in the Verissimo Building. Within the next decade, Pini acquired the land where the Novato Theatre now stands and constructed a modern store. In the 1940's, Pini Hardware's future looked sparse after Henry Pini's passing in 1942 and a large fire in 1944 that destroyed the establishment. Through thick and thin, Pini Hardware has thrived through many other significant historical events like the Great Depression. Despite these setbacks, in 1945, Pini Hardware was resurrected at 1107 Grant Avenue, with the building donning the famous neon hammer sign. You can find this piece of history in its current location, 1535 South Novato Blvd Ste A in the Nave Shopping Center. Pini Hardware moved to its current location in January 2004, allowing for more merchandise, more parking, and greater customer service overall; a staple of the Pini Hardware experience. Since the beginning, Pini Hardware has been a family-owned establishment. New owners have always been family or friends. In addition to celebrating Pini Hardware's 100th year, the Young Family is celebrating ownership of Pini Hardware for 50 of those years. Ben and Ellarene Young, and Tiernan and Florance Saunders purchased the store in 1968. Fifteen years later, Charles Young and Steve Saunders purchased the store from their parents. In 2015, Steve Saunders sold his share of the business to Charles Young, with Young being sole owner of Pini Hardware. In late 2017, Charles Young announced his retirement and turned over management to his sons, Tom, Russell, and David Young. Throughout the years, Pini Hardware has been known for its old-fashioned customer service in a modern environment. Pini is known for being community-oriented by sponsoring school sport teams and participating in events like the Downtown Novato Tree Lighting and Scream on the Green. Although Pini Hardware has changed throughout the decades, morphing as the surrounding community has grown, it has always remained loyal to its roots of offering personable service with new and returning customers. Customer service has been the key component in Pini Hardware's legacy, and Pini Hardware wants to share its success with future generations to come, continuing to offer helpful experiences one will remember.
