26 UCW AUGUST 29-SEPTEMBER 4, 2018 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM City Launches New Public Record Request Webpage The City of Fayetteville has launched a new webpage for public record requests that will make the record request process easier and more efficient. The new webpage will also make the process more transparent, which is a constant goal of the organization. Citizens can now visit the City of Fayetteville website at https://fayettevillenc.gov, scroll over "How Do I" and click on "Request A Public Record" or make a record request by clicking on the recently launched "Transparency and Accountability" button on the top left of the homepage and clicking "Request A Public Record". Citizens can request a City public record, Fire public record and Police public record with specific links to the City's new Next Request portal. Requestors simply need to create a Next Request account when making their first record request or log back into the system on their following record requests. Next Request provides a more reliable and simpler online public record request process, eliminating the need for requests to be sent via email or through PDF forms. It also allows requests to be tracked and ensures they will not get missed or overlooked. And the best part is that requestors can now download their documents as a PDF from their own Next Request online portal. This feature allows easy transfer of larger files and eliminates the hassle of receiving CDs via snail mail. There is also a "Records Available Online" button on the Transparency & Accountability webpage where users can view and download documents that are already available. Additionally, as a record request is being made in Next Request, if the document is already available, a clickable link will pop up in a yellow bar at the bottom of the request box, and instructions to view already available documents are included at the right of the Make Request page in a gray box. Previously requested documents that were requested through Next Request will also be made viewable to the public, so the public can view those documents at their leisure or staff will direct a requestor to the documents if they make the same request. All of these features will not only make the entire process easier for the requestor, but will allow City staff to more efficiently and effectively fulfill each request — no matter how complex. Fort Bragg Centennial Celebrated The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County are celebrating the Fort Bragg Centennial with exhibits and banners. Exhibits opened Aug. 18 as a joint effort between Fort Bragg, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum and the Fayetteville Area Transportation & Local History Museum. Displays are hosted at both museums, City Hall and the N.C. Veterans Park. All exhibits and displays are cross promoted and offer residents and visitors multiple locations and opportunities to take part in this historic celebration. Banners commemorating the post's centennial are on display at Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation buildings, the E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse, City Hall and all County Public Libraries. "The history of Fayetteville can't be told without Fort Bragg," City Manager Doug Hewett said. "Fayetteville is blessed and fortunate to have nearly 60,000 service men and women and their families here, and for the past 100 years, Fort Bragg has shaped our community in many indelible ways. As such, we are so proud to be the home of the largest military base in the world and are excited to see what the next 100 years brings to Fayetteville and Cumberland County." "We are incredibly grateful to the military members and their families who have served our country for the last 100 years while stationed here. We are also thankful for the civilians and contractors who assist Fort Bragg in meeting its mission," said County Manager Amy Cannon. The City of Fayetteville presented a proclamation celebrating Fort Bragg's 100th anniversary to Garrison Commander Col. Kyle Reed during the City Council regular meeting on Aug. 13 and Reed accepted a similar proclamation from Cumberland County commissioners Aug. 20. More events are planned to celebrate the Fort Bragg Centennial and will be announced through subsequent media releases and posts on the City of Fayetteville's Facebook and Twitter pages. 433 Hay Street Fayetteville, NC 28301-5537 www.FayettevilleNC.gov (910) 433-1FAY (1329) /cityoffayettevillegovernment Insta Follow Your City on Social Media: Engaging You About Your City Government Engaging You About Your City Government KENNETH MAYNER, MPA, Chief Branding Officer, City of Faye eville Corporate Communica ons Department, Contribu ng Writer.
