Girls Inaugural Season A Stepping Stone for Years To Come Rick Peck Special to McDonald County Press The first year of the McDonald County High School girls' golf team is one of extremes. While basically short on experience, one of the girls is a veteran of high school golf competition, having lettered during her freshman year as a member of the boys team. Lily Allman, a 4-foot-11 sophomore, though short on height is long on expe- rience despite just taking up the game two years ago. Allman had dedicated herself to the sport, including summer trips to South Carolina and California the past two years to play. "Lily is very knowledgeable about the game," said Kyle Fields, who added girls' golf in addition to boys' basketball to his coaching duties. "She has a great attitude and work ethic. She has spent a lot of time around the game and has a funda- mentally sound swing." Bringing a bit of experience to the team is fellow sophomore Anna Mead, who competed in one match last spring with the boys' team. "I think Lily's and Anna's experi- ence on the boys' team will help them," Fields said. "Anna has the potential. I saw some good things last spring and she has the right mindset to be a good player." Others on team include freshmen Lundyn Trudeau, Jolie Stipp and Kylie Meador. Fields said he believes there are a couple more girls planning on coming out for the team once school starts. "I am looking forward to the season to get going," Fields said. "We are really young and inexperienced with the exception of Lily. Hopefully, this group can start something we can build on in the upcoming years. I hope the girls have a positive experience and can use this as a stepping stone for years to come."
