Thursday, August 23, 2018 McDonald County Press 7C F a l l S p o r t S p r e v i e w SOFTBALL: Outlook Is For Big Things VOLLEYBALL: Goal Is To Be Scrappy Nicoletti, who are battling for the two remaining outfield spots. "We have some good freshman and we think Madeline can come in and help us at the varsity level," Rawlins said. "She throws different than Lex. She has more power while Lex moves the ball around." With an offense that can hit with power and average, a three-deep pitching staff and good team speed and a defense that is as deep as it has been since Rawlins has been here, the outlook is for big things for the 2018 Lady Mustangs. "I don't think our expectations are any different from any other year," Rawlins said. "We always have an expectation of where we want to be at the end of the year. That doesn't change from year-to- year on who we have or don't have. But with that being said, we think we have some girls with a lot of experience and who are pretty hungry to prove what they can do. We have a chance to be a pretty decent team." Grab said summer workouts and camp went well. She said instead of traveling to a league or camps, the Lady Mustangs stayed at home and concentrated on themselves. "We had a lot of work we needed to do within ourselves," Grab said. "We spent the month of July at home and it really did pay off I think. I have seen a lot of improvement. I've seen a really great work ethic and the girls become more of a team. We've had a really good turnout this summer." Grab said she wants to see more inten- sity and competiveness than she saw last year as a spectator. "Our main goal this season is to be a scrappy team," Grab said. "We want to be consistent, especially serving. In the past, having some consistency with serv- ing has been an issue. We really focused on that and that is going to be one of our main goals. I will say our percentage will definitely go up." Grab is assisted by Emilee Sumler while Sarah Holz will coach the fresh- men. McDonald County opens the season on Aug. 28 at Carthage. The home opener is set for Sept. 6 against Webb City. CONTINUED FROM PAGE 5C CONTINUED FROM PAGE 6C
