Rick Peck Special to McDonald County Press A new coach, along with a renewed enthusiasm and a strong group of return- ing starters, has expectations on the rise for the McDonald County High School volleyball team. Former Lady Mustang Logan Grab, a 2008 graduate of MCHS, takes over for the 2018 season after McDonald County suffered through a one-win season last year. Grab coached travel teams while she attended Missouri Southern State University before graduating in 2012. She started teaching English at MCHS that fall and coached junior high volleyball for her first year. "I am a little anxious, but I am defi- nitely enthusiastic and optimistic for the season," Grab said. "I am very excited to get started. The game of volleyball is so much fun and getting to be a part of that with this great group is a good thing." The Lady Mustangs return nine letter- men from last season, including hitters Kailana Pa, Mattie Leach, Emily Landers, Nicole Salas, Ember Killion and Helen Reyes. Defensive returners are Kaycee Factor, Adyson Sanny and Kelli Brennand. "Kailana is very powerful," Grab said. "She is moving from the middle to the outside. She is one our best hitters so we need her out there. It will be an adjust- ment for her, but we think it will pay off." Grab said Factor, a sophomore who started as a freshman, will continue in her role as libero. "She did a really good job in that role last year and she continues to get better," Grab said. "She will play back row for two different people and will be on the court most of the time." 6C McDonald County Press Thursday, August 23, 2018 F a l l S p o r t S p r e v i e w Varsity/JV/9th Volleyball Date Opponent Level Time Aug. 21 at Monett Preseason Scrimmage Varsity 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Carthage Ninth/JV/Varsity 5 p.m. Aug. 30 at Diamond Ninth/JV/Varsity 5 p.m. Sept. 4 at Joplin Ninth/JV/Varsity 5 p.m. Sept. 6 Webb City Ninth/JV/Varsity 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Pea Ridge (Ark.)
