RICK PECK/SPECIAL TO MCDONALD COUNTY PRESS Senior members of the 2018 Lady Mustang softball team. From left to right: Leslie Yousey, Kylie Helm and Kaylee Cornell. Rick Peck Special to McDonald County Press McDonald County High School softball coach Skyler Rawlins has put together a 54-27 record in his three years at MCHS. His fourth year should be just as good as the previous three, if not better. The Lady Mustangs return seven start- ers from last year's 18-10 team, including all-conference catcher Kylie Helm and all-conference shortstop Chloe Colvin. "Kylie will anchor the lineup, both offensively and defensively," Rawlins said. "She probably swings the bat better than anyone in our area. Chloe gives us great defense and a consistent bat." Rawlins said he expects big offensive numbers from several other girls. "Whitney (Kinser) will hit in the 3-4-5 spot and gives us some power," Rawlins said. "She is getting better every day at third base. Rita (Santillan) will lead off and can hit with power and has great speed. She is moving from left field to center. She is filling a big role we have had there for the past three years (Cloee Helm)." Also back is Leslie Yousey at second base. Even with the riches in the hitting department, pitching might be the Lady Mustangs strength. "Lex (Alexis Hopkins) we leaned on as a freshman almost every game," Rawlins said. "She gives us a chance to win every time she throws. We think she has a little help this year. Kaylee Cornell was our second pitcher last year and will get some key innings this year." The key newcomers are led by fresh- man pitcher Madeline McCall. Position players new to the lineup include Kaylee Eberley, Kristin Cornell and Alison Thursday, August 23, 2018 McDonald County Press 5C F a l l S p o r t S p r e v i e w MCHS Softball Carrying Big Expectations LADY MUSTANGS RETURN SEVEN STARTERS FROM LAST YEAR'S TEAM Varsity/JV Softball Date Opponent Level Time Aug. 18 Jamboree at MCHS Varsity/JV 10 a.m. Aug. 27 at Joplin Varsity/JV 5 p.m. Aug. 28 at East Newton Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30 Marshfield Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 3 Carthage Varsity/JV 5 p.m. Sept. 4 at Reeds Spring Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 4 Carl Junction Ninth-grade 5 p.m. Sept. 6 Aurora Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Carl Junction Varsity Noon Sept. 7 at Hillcrest Varsity 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10 Neosho Varsity/JV 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at Seneca Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Carl Junction Ninth-grade 5 p.m. Sept. 13 Cassville Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 17 Nixa Varsity/JV 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at Lamar Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 20 Nevada Varsity/JV 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21-22 at Univ.
