August 8, 2018 www.DesertMessenger.com 3 Parents & community invited to Awareness Forum Free Parent - Community Awareness Forum Monday, August 13th, 6pm Ehrenberg Elementary School Jesus Villahermosa will present a Free Community Awareness Forum for parents and members of the community, hosted by Quartzsite Elementary School District 6pm Monday, August 13th at Ehrenberg Elemen- tary School. Parents and community members are all encouraged to attend this free informational forum regarding school safety. Jesus Villahermosa will be speaking and answering questions to help us work together as a commu- nity for the safety of our students. Jesus Villahermosa is a nationally rec- ognized expert in the area of Active Shooters. His 33 years in law enforce- ment and 30 years serving as the Point Man on the S.W.A.T. Team while serving with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department allows Jesus to train others with reality always in mind. Attendees will learn about: • How to discuss these sensitive topics with your child. • What to do if your child is on lockdown. • Communicating safety and threat concerns to the School District. • Situational awareness. Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good that will be donated to our local food banks. Due to nature of the presentation, children under 18 will not be allowed at this forum. The "Branding Iron Art Gallery Show & Sale" will be part of the fi rst an- nual Buck Connors Western Days and will feature a Fine Art Display at the Quartzsite Community Center, 295 E. Chandler St., Quartzsite AZ. 85346, on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10, 2018, 9AM-3PM. In keeping with Buck Connors Western Days, the show theme will feature an indoor barn style setting where you can relax while viewing our "Wagon Wheel" display of ORIGINAL paintings, ready to hang in your home or RV. Guests to the show can vote for their favorite overall booth. Enjoy refreshments at the "Watering Hole" and shop the "Mer- cantile" full of small gifts for yourself, Christmas, and loved ones. Attendees will also have a chance to win an Original Painting offered by the artists in a raffl e. Raffl e tickets will be sold at the show. The draw- ing will be held Saturday at 2:30 P.M. You do not need to be present to win! Proceeds from the sale of raffl e tickets will be donated to our local charities. Heather's Summer Art Students will display their work of art in the art show. Two other people were injured in the crash. Two Harley Davidson motorcycles were westbound on Highway 1416 when they failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection with South Ellsworth Road. The two motorcycles collided with a 2016 Freight- liner semi-truck pulling triple trailers that was turning onto Highway 1416 from Box Elder Road. The occupants of one motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identifi ed as the driver, James Bradley, 54, and the passenger, Deanna Bradley, 45, both of Parker, AZ. Both were wearing helmets. Both occupants of the other motorcycle sustained minor injuries. They were the driver, 54-year-old Greg Bunch, and 30-year-old Christina Lo- gan Bettencourt, both of San Diego, CA. She was transported to a Rapid City hospital. Neither was wearing a helmet.
