S ix years ago, the house corporation and alumni volunteers be- gan a visioning process to help us prepare for our second centu- ry. What we envisioned in 2012 was a large brotherhood on the OSU campus with less than 50% of the members living in the chapter house. At the time, it was becoming clear that OSU would most likely begin requiring freshmen to live in dorms beginning in the fall of 2013. is was a significant concern within the Greek community as to how this could negatively impact the well-being of fraternities at OSU. As we developed Alpha Lambda's strategy in response to this new chal- lenge, our thinking was that this provided a great opportunity to no longer be constrained by the living capacity of the chapter house in building future recruitment classes. More importantly, this was viewed as a way to ensure that the focus of recruitment and programming be placed on the brotherhood that Lambda Chi Alpha provides. Establishing our vision was an important step, but implementing against that vision was the real test. In five years' time, we have moved swily in implementing our second century vision. Alpha Lambda is experiencing record-breaking success in membership, academics, and leadership and involvement on campus. Having a large out-of-house brotherhood is a new and different mod- el than what most Alpha Lambda alumni experienced during their time at OSU. However, it is a robust, financially sound, and sustainable model! It helps to ensure that Lambda Chi Alpha at OSU is continuing to develop and produce tomorrow's leaders. A NEW WAY FORWARD The Competition e Greek community at OSU is reinvesting in chapter houses. Several fraternities are responding to the competition by making significant investments in upgrading, including Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Nu, Acacia, and Alpha Gamma Rho. Additionally, Phi Kappa Psi recently constructed a completely new house just a short walk from our chapter house and is now thriving. With this campaign, Lambda Chi Alpha will be able to compete with other fraternity housing and will help se- cure the legacy of our brotherhood at OSU. A Place to Call Home for Alpha Lambda in Our Second Century Lambda Chi Alpha plays a significant role in Greek life at OSU, as well as in the Corvallis community. e fraternal experience creates a strong tie and a sense of belonging, which carry on well aer graduation. To grow, thrive, and establish continuity as a premier fraternity at OSU, we need a facility that is representative of the past, present, and future of our chapter that both alumni and undergraduates can call home. Aer 54 years of service, our current chapter house has increasing annual maintenance needs, systems that are failing, and lacks safety systems that are requisite to providing housing to undergraduate stu- dents. Additionally, the programming and housing needs are much different today than they were when our previous chapter houses were completed in 1922 and 1964.
