Remembering Matthew T. Mellon II Δ'87
M
atthew T. Mellon II Δ'87 passed away on April 16. e memorial service was held on Saturday, April 28, in Boynton Beach, Florida. e Delta
Alumni Association sent a traditional Tau Cross in yellow and blue roses. Our thoughts are with Matthew's family and friends.
"Matt was larger than life. He was,
in the words of the Grateful Dead,
'Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to
never ever land.'"
– James S. Blank Δ'85
"Matt's long connection with the Hall
started with his uncle, Digby Baltzell,
to becoming a pledge/undergradu-
ate brother and continued through
sightings and appearances over the
years. e last time I saw him was at
a mini-reunion a few years ago with
a bunch of brothers in Nantucket. He
became our brother 30 years ago this
spring. We are his family, too."
– Michael Paulik Δ'86
"Matt made even the mundane an
adventure. He will be missed but never
forgotten."
– John Ridgway Δ'85
"e last time I saw Matt, he was a
fantastic combination of his unchas-
tened, magnetic personality and yet
also realistic about some challenges.
But, for many of us in Delta 1987, Matt
will always be remembered for the
Oscar-level performance as 'Professor
Mellon' at UVA. Or, the waterskiing on
the Schuyllkill River and its tributaries.
Hard to say which was more epic. I will
always remember him fondly."
– Rob Donahue Δ'87
