Saturday, August 11, 2018 • 125TH ANNUAL GRAVETTE DAY • 3 Looking Back and Moving Forward Welcome from the mayor Citizens and guests of Gravette, The 125th Gravette Day is quickly approaching and I'm excited for you to join us! This annual city festival celebrates the founding of Gravette, which occurred on August 9, 1893, and has been celebrated by those before us for decades. What started as a picnic social where residents mingled and reminisced has turned into a highly anticipated community event that celebrates this great town. Gravette was started as a humble 80-acre town and now encompasses almost 14 square miles and is home to nearly 4,000 residents and more than 100 businesses. I came into office in 2015 and since that time have placed an emphasis on combining quality of life improvements with infrastructure investments to ensure that Gravette truly remains the "Heart of Hometown America." We have lots to celebrate this Gravette Day – a new splash park and fully renovated pool area, a remodeled Hiwasse Community Building, the start of a 1.4 mile pedestrian and bike trail that will also serve as a safe route to school, freshly resurfaced streets on both the east and west sides of town, increased investment in constructing new single-family homes, and the recognition as one of the safest cities in the state. On behalf of city staff and the City Council, I hope you enjoy the festivities of this special celebration. For those just visiting, I hope you find time to return and explore our fine town and for those lucky enough to live here, I hope to see you around town. Respectfully, Mayor Kurt Maddox, City of Gravette We're handing our free watermalon in the park during the 125th annual Gravette Day celebration. Come join us!
